Recent data from Lands of America records $468 million in farms, ranches and other land for sale in the Cotton State. This represents a total of 359,608 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $24 million, although the median price for land, ranches and farms in Arizona came in at $258,950. The average price of land listed for sale in Arizona was $494,228. There was 1,159 acres of sold land in Arizona recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the previous period. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $4.7 million. Home to the Grand Canyon and a number of other epic desert landscapes, land in Arizona is ripe for exploration, with popular outdoor recreation activities including hiking, climbing and canyoneering. Big game here includes antelope, black bear, buffalo, javelina and mountain lions, along with other small-game species like blue grouse, cottontail rabbit and dove and pheasant. Fishing is another popular pastime in Arizona. Arizona is one of the country's top ten biggest states in terms of size, covering an area of 114,006 square miles (73 million acres). Of this area, 113,594 square miles (100 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 396 square miles is covered by water. Over half the land in Arizona is public land such as state parks, forestland or state and other federally protected land. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Arizona. The financial publication Kiplinger has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living.
